In case you think your kids are just having fun, consider the educational benefits of DI.
TEAMWORK -- CREATIVITY -- PROBLEM SOLVING

In this challenge, the team will be

- Learning to appreciate that each member of the team has important skills and talents to bring to the table
- Learning about different kinds of news stories
- Paying closer attention to the news by researching stories
- Understanding the difference between major news stories and minor news
- Becoming a more thoughtful reader and interpreter of news
- Thinking about cause and effect of news, and cause and effect in general
- Solving both long and short term problems/challenges
- Learning to see problems as challenges that can be solved with teamwork and creativity
- Learning to break down a large challenge into parts
- Learning to improvise, a key skill in a rapidly changing world
- Constantly pushing the limits of their creativity
- Learning some basic structural and building concepts through instant challenges
- Building presentation and speaking skills
- Learning theater skills
- Practicing brainstorming and decision making skills
- Learning to listen and read carefully to fulfill requirements of challenges
I just thought of those in 5 minutes, and I bet I could list a lot more. For more information on how DI connects to educational standards, see Connecting to the Standards.
